Fresh air (and lots of it)

Our kennels overlook our gardens and adjacent farmland, giving your pets a view of more than just four walls (or each other). Dogs are walked in the Derbyshire countryside and enjoy plenty of space and fresh air.

At Wharf Cottage, our facilities are second-to-none

We want your pets to enjoy the time they spend with us and we know that the secret to a happy pet is a warm, well-fed and well-exercised pet. Our priority is ensuring the wellbeing of every animal who stays with us and we ensure that the facilities we offer - from our quiet, spacious setting to the fact that we use only Defra-Approved cleaning products - really are the best you will find. Anywhere.

Fully-heated facilities

Fully-heated facilities

Both our kennels and cattery benefit from full central heating ensuring that your pet stays warm and comfortable, even on the coldest winter nights. We can also supply extra bedding and/or blankets if needed for any pet in our care. You are welcome to bring along a comfort blanket for your pet as this will have the familiar smell of home.

Larger kennel runs

Larger kennel runs

Our external 60 square foot runs are fully covered to protect your pets from the elements and are larger than the standard size as required by and approved by Derbyshire council. Each one overlooks our well-established garden and the Derbyshire farmland beyond so you can be sure your pet won't be spending its time with us staring into another kennel.

Secure, outdoor exercise area

Secure, outdoor exercise area

Should your dog need an extra run around then they can take advantage of our outdoor secure, high-fenced and grassed exercise area. They can have a good run around in the sunshine and stretch their legs or simply pop out for a sniff about and a gentle wander. We also have a range of dog play equipment should they be feeling particularly energetic.

Derbyshire on our doorstep

Derbyshire on our doorstep

All dogs are lead-walked twice daily in the Derbyshire countryside with distant views of Hardwick Hall. We supply spare leads, halters and harnesses should you forget your pet's own. All dogs will be towel dried upon return to their kennel and extra towels will be provided in the sleeping area on cold and wet days so that their bedding won’t become damp.

Wharf Cottage Kennels is a family-run business

Wharf Cottage

Wharf Cottage originally began business solely as a cattery, and over the last twenty years, through investment in modern kennel facilities and development of its gardens, has grown into a well-established and highly-praised boarding kennels and cattery. We are unique in that we are a small business with our kennels situated in a position to take full advantage of the surrounding fields and garden.

Jenny has over 20 years of professional experience working with animals. Fully trained by the RSPCA, Jenny progressed from animal care assistant in a shelter to staff trainer and then Animal Collection Officer - working alongside Inspectors out in the field. Whilst at the shelter she has trained to vaccinate, microchip and along with all areas of animal care including animal behaviour. Jenny's claim to fame is her time spent as a regular on the 90s TV series Pet Rescue, which paid regular visits to the RSPCA shelter she worked in at the time.

Both our kennels and cattery benefit from full central heating ensuring that your pet stays warm and comfortable, even on the coldest winter nights.
